Tono-Vera uses rebound tonometry guided by the ActiView™ Positioning System. In short: AVIA is tap-based and anesthetic-required, while Tono-Vera is alignment-guided, automatic, and anesthetic-free. Both use single-use consumables (Ocu-Film Tip Covers for AVIA, Ocu-Dot Probes for Tono-Vera) and aren't interchangeable with each other.
